Publisher's Note

Some friends of ours are currently on vacation in Russia, which got me to thinking, "I wonder what it's like to be an accountant in Russia?" I have no idea. It wasn't all that long ago that International Financial Reporting Standards were adopted by the Russian Finance Ministry, so it's probably been a rather challenging profession as of late! If you have any first-hand knowledge of accounting in the Russian Federation, please e-mail me so we can share it with AccountingWEB readers.

In the meantime, here are some key Russian facts:
  • Population: 142 million
  • Largest city (and capital): Moscow
  • Second largest city:
    St. Petersburg
  • Size: the largest country in the world by more than 2.5 million square miles
  • Ethnic groups:
    Russian 79.8%,
    Tatar 3.8%,
    Ukrainian 2%,
    other 14.4%

Looking for internships for Summer 2009

I will be entering my junior year of college next year, and I would like to find an internship for next summer in public accounting. This summer I am working as a staff temp in the accounts receivable department of a non-profit educational institution to gain experience. My GPA is a 3.8, and so far I've had four accounting courses, so I think I can get an internship. When would be the best time to start looking for internships for next summer?
