Publisher's Note
I'm generally not a big fan of accountant jokes, but hey, we
all need to laugh at ourselves sometimes, right? Here are a few
worth passing along. Enjoy.
You might be an accountant if:- You had no idea that GAP is a clothing store
- You refer to your child as "deduction"
What's an accountant's idea of trashing his hotel room?
Not filling out the guest comment card
What did the Dad say when he looked at the tax form?
1) The man who set the standard deduction must have been a bachelor
2) I am just kidding when I list myself as a head of household
Happy Father's Day!

What every company should be doing to protect their network and data
Backup files regularly.
This should be automated to happen every day, not once per week
or less. I have seen companies go out of business because they

Captain Excel
Objectivity and evolution
At my last seminar someone asked, "Can I get a cell using a data
validation list to show the drop down arrow even when the
cursor is not on the validation cell?" The answer is NO.
However, one can generally get Excel to accomplish almost
anything. An active X Combo Box can accomplish this task.
Here's how data validation works. First create a list.

Marketing Lessons for CPAs from Hillary
Paying close attention to politics is like going to a marketing
seminar every day. Campaigns spend millions with media and guru
consultants trying to make the sale with you. Now that Sen.
Clinton has conceded (temporarily), let's take a look from a
marketing point of view at what worked, and mostly didn't work,
from a marketing standpoint for her campaign - and how it
applies to your marketing as a CPA firm....

The "date certain" for conversion to International Reporting
Standards (IFRS) may be as soon as 2014, according to Kenneth
Marshall, a partner in E&Y's Assurance & Advisory Business
Services practice, which, with three-year comparative
reporting, will mean that U.S. companies should begin the
process of adapting their accounting and other business systems
within the next eighteen months.

Should I sell my property in Hawaii or rent it out?
I'm thinking about quitting my job and moving to Nevada. Should I take out a home equity loan to purchase a house in Nevada or should I sell my property in Hawaii and use that to purchase a house?

Looking for internships for Summer 2009
I will be entering my junior year of college next year, and I would like to find an internship for next summer in public accounting. This summer I am working as a staff temp in the accounts receivable department of a non-profit educational institution to gain experience. My gpa is a 3.8, and so far I've had four accounting courses, so I think I can get an internship. When would be the best time to start looking for internships for next summer? Should I contact the firms or use monstertrak.com, collegecentral.com, etc.? Do the internships usually offer credit?
