This Issue's Theme: SUMMER CONFERENCES, ACCOUNTING ASSOCIATIONS June 20, 2008

Editor's Note

It's fitting that I'm attending a conference this week while writing this message. The Intuit Accounting Professionals User Conference is convening in Orlando. Attendees get to see demos of new products, meet with the people who actually make the programs at Intuit, and have their voices heard. This particular conference is populated with people who all have something in common - everyone uses at least one of the Intuit family of products, in particular, QuickBooks in its various iterations, and Lacerte. And we even have an option of getting wake-up calls from Disney characters....

Recharge your batteries at a summer conference

Plenty of accounting professionals will hit the road this summer and attend a conference. Most associations and organizations schedule their meeting times for summer, after the chaos of busy season and before we all settle back into a routine in the autumn. Summer is also the time when we unwind and think about family vacations. Many people combine work and pleasure by traveling to a summer conference and bringing the family along or having family join us when the conference ends. more

Marketers Unite!

The first Association for Accounting Marketing (AAM) annual conference I attended was in 2001 in Toronto. Last week's gathering in San Diego was a stark contrast. Oh, sure, some things haven't changed, such as few CPAs in the mix. These conferences are outstanding opportunities for a firm's managing partner to accompany the marketing director they are sending. Hopefully, someday that will be the norm rather than the exception. more
